I saw Buttermilk Falls on the map and I heard that it's a good hike. It's on my to-do list for the next time I'm in the area. Judging by the relatively big trees and the rotting falling logs, I'm pretty sure I was in the old growth. But the surrounding forest was still pretty mature, so it wasn't easy to tell. If you ever have a chance, try to explore the Buttermilk Falls trail in the DWGNRA. There are some impressive stands of Hemlock there as well as further south at the Hemlock Pond area.
